On the artist’s island of Badu during periods of searing heat and cloudless skies a dog is sometimes observed lying on its back with its hind legs spread wide open. This is an indicator that the weather will change and rain is on its way.
The dog in its discomfort is depicted with its tongue lolling out. On it a frog can be seen which is the artists visual metaphor for rain. The blue of the dog is also an indicator of the coming rain.
