There is an immediate visual correlation between Jorna Newberry’s painting and that of the great Tommy Watson, which is not surprising when we learn this relative newcomer is his niece. Born in 1959, Jorna is an Irrunytju painter who splits her time between her traditional homeland in the Warakurna and Irrunytju districts. The influence of her uncle, Tommy Watson, spills across her palate, in a serious and secretive representational dreaming of Ngayuku Ngura.
