Mary Kemarre Morton’s work symbolizes the different body designs painted on the women for the ceremonies. Underlying the work is layer upon layer of grid-like patterns providing a structure upon which she layers dotting and meandering gotti marks a technique she developed in the 80s and 90s when she was involved in batik making.
The marks painted on the women’s bodies represent the subject of the Awely - Body Paint.
