The painting depicts the pattern of the Mountain Devil Lizard's skin. In the Dreamtime it is believed the lizard collected then deposited these ochre colours throughout the country. Aboriginal people use these colours for their ceremonies. Some members of the Petyarre family bear markings on their skin, similar to that found on the Mountain Devil Lizard.
