Makinti’s inspiration for the patterns of her works come from the hairstring skirts woven from human hair which the Pintupi women wear in ceremonial dance. While the linier patterns in Makinti’s paintings refer to the skirts worn by the women, the flowing rhythms of the lines relate to the songs and dances of the Pintupi’s women’s ceremonies.
