This painting represents the roots, seeds and leaves of the Yam plant. Yams were and are still today a food source for Aboriginal people in Central Australia. The Yam plant is also a significant totem to those who have ownership to the Dreaming. Yams have a complex root system. It is best harvested several months after rainfall when the exposed plant has died off. As the edible part is attached to the root system it must be located, dug up and gathered.
