This is emu Country called Alalgura. The male emu’s role is to look after the emu chicks and keep them in sight of their home and not beyond their preferred seeds and fruits. The foods include the Anooralya, a long thin yam. It was often an important historical ceremony, triggered by the nature and timing of the season, that provoked Emily’s memory and lasting emotions.
In this work she has painted the bountiful country after rain.Emily also believed that it was through ceremony Awelye and her belief in the power of the desert, that she could provoke the desert’s hidden energy in a new and bountiful season.
The young girl’s who inherit custodial responsibility dir the bush tucker ,learn moral and social codes through the stories of their ancestors and through ceremony.
